"Democracy is this innate belief in people. It's a psychedelic way of doing it. It's the closest we can get to anarchy. Anarchy to my mind is, of course, the ideal. But anarchy has to be mediated with policy, and the way..."

Friday evening opening lecture of the Santa Fe weekend organised by Carmen Blue of Blue Moon Vintage Books & Video, 1990. Terence opens by thanking Carmen Blue and Blue Moon Books and notes it is the first time he has spoken in Santa Fe. Previously mislabelled here as Esalen; corrected on the authority of the Terence McKenna Archives, who hold the physical tapes, and confirmed from the recording itself. Sound Photosynthesis catalogued the full weekend as "Mind & Time, Spirit & Matter: The Complete Weekend in Santa Fe" (#A444-90).

Roughly one hour of video from the 1989 weekend Terence McKenna shared with Amazon explorer and medicinal-plant researcher Nicole Maxwell. This is an EXCERPT: Sound Photosynthesis catalogued the complete event as a seven-and-a-half-hour set (5 audio cassettes #A478-89 / 4 video cassettes #V192-89). For the fuller record see "Amazonian Shamanism (Complete Weekend) [ft. Nicole Maxwell]" in this collection, which holds 6 hours 24 minutes of audio from the same weekend -- the two do not overlap, so they are complementary rather than duplicate.
